Texas Hold Em’

No Limit Texas Hold Em has been around for a long time, but recently the game has seen an extreme surge in popularity. The culture is clearly defined both by geography and nature of people. The location is at casinos and online gaming sites worldwide. The players come from nations across the world, so obviously they are quite different in terms of ethnicity and custom. At any time hundreds of thousands of people are playing.

The players are united under one main goal, making money. The players do feel a since of belonging to the community. Players feel a since of belonging on many different levels. Texas Hold Em’ players have separated themselves from the poker community as the premier players and a sub category of the community. The Hold Em’ players work together in regulating gaming laws, and battling the U.S. government over legality of online gaming. The Hold Em’ community is then divided into online teams. The three major teams are; Team Pokerstars, Team FullTilt; and Team Ultimate Bet. Yes, the people I am going to talk about are identifiable to a specific site. I will be specifically talking about Team Pokerstars members.

Poker is a profession, and therefore the use of jargon is prevalent. An entire paper could be written about “poker talk”. In fact, someone unfamiliar with playing poker could expect to sit at a table and be blown away by the terms they hear. From the order the cards are dealt to the names of special hands. Players have technical t for every aspect of the game.

The game is interesting to me, and I love to play it. The most fascinating part of the game is that you can turn $300 dollars into over a million in less than a day’s time. The fame and fortune of poker pros now rival the fame of professional athletes. Poker’s intrigue levies with the rich, and the average Joe with no physical talents that can become legend. I feel connected with Hold Em’ because it is the ultimate intellectual game and every hand is a mental battle against your opponent.

Poker has become much more accessible. Right now there are thousands of poker arenas a click away. All you need to get there is high speed internet and a bank account.

Throughout history poker has been considered a dangerous game played by rebels and hustlers. Pokers great players talk about the gun fights and cheating that used to be custom, but with the legalization of cards, and the introduction of online gaming it is now safe. I typically play from my living room.

The legality of internet gaming is undefined and differs from country to country and even state to state. Currently in the U.S. it is illegal in almost every state, but the penalties and enforcement differ. My paper is going to look into the issue surrounding this hot button issue. Right now legislatures are talking about the possible economic benefit of legalizing online cards. They are also trying to develop a system to make taxation easy. I hope to reach a professional poker player or two online and set up interviews to get their opinion on legalizing online gaming. I also hope to visit a few local casinos to talk with management as well as dealers about legalization.

The idea of your paper and subculture is very good. I am one of the people who mentioned who would be blown away by the terms. Just make sure when you start writing that you specify what some of the terms mean because not everyone knows them. Also you did not metion anything about interviews, how are you going to do them. Other then that good letter.

This sounds like a great topic. Obviously you're very interested in the subject. I like to play poker myself and I don't understand the half of poker talk. Maybe you could give some examples and explain what they mean. You could also explain more about the difference between the three teams that you mentioned. Another thing is that you said that Texas Hold Em' is generally separated from the rest of the poker players. Why is that? What makes Texas Hold Em' special?
I look forward to hearing more about this subject and learning the intricacies of this apparently popular game.

I think this topic would be very interesting to research. I don't know much of anything about poker, but I would enjoy to learn more about it. Especially if I had potential to be good at it. I've always been interested in that whole scene, but unfortunately I have never been involved. Hopefully with your choice of topic for this assignment, I will understand more about poker, the rules, how its actually played, and possibly strategy. I'm lookign forward to it.

It was interesting to know you can make so much money off this game? Has anyone on line ever tried to rip you off? Where are these people that you play poker with from? How did you find an on line game where you can play for real money? Will this affect the area casinos if more people find out about this on line poker?
